Delta Air Lines is an American airline. It has its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Concerning the number of transporter passengers in a year, Delta is the second largest flight-operator in the world, behind American Airlines. With 324 scheduled flights, the company serves more destinations than any other. Aircraft go to North-America, South-America, Europe and Asia. Delta Air Lines is a member of Skyteam, an international airline alliance.

From there, the network of routes was broadened with cities as Chicago, New Orleans, Cincinnati and Ohio. In the fifties, the first flights to the Caribbean and Venezuela were carried out. Currently, the airline has the most Atlantic connections. A lot of them are gained after Pan Am went bankrupt.

Delta Air Lines used to be a big customer of Douglas, leading to a large fleet of DC-8's in the sixties. Later, the The successor of the DC-9, the MD-80 / -90 of Delta Air Linesnog DC-9 was added too. In 1970, a couple of Boeing 747's were purchased. In the eighties, Delta bought a large number of Boeing 767's. These aircraft are the pillar of the fleet.

Delta Air Lines is now busy expanding its fleet. To do so, the airline has made 58 orders for the Boeing 737-800, 10 for the Boeing 737-700, A Boeing 757 operated by the American Delta13 for the Boeing 757-200 and 5 more for the Boeing 777-200 LR Worldliner.

After the attacks on September 11, the economic department of Delta Air Lines faced a true blizzard. Causes of this were the high oil prices and the Americans being afraid to fly. That fear was a result of the attacks on the WTC. In 2004, a massive reorganization was conducted. A lot of jobs were lost. It was also necessary to increase the number of flights to gain as much money as possible. There have been multiple offers to take over the company, but within Delta, there's a lot of resistance.
