Thai Airways International is, like the name implies, a Thai airline. Its main airport is Bangkok International Airport. Since 1997 the company is a member of airline-alliance Star Alliance. Lufthansa represents Thai Airways in North-America.
At the founding in 1959 there was a cooperation with Scandinavian Airlines System. On April 1, 1960, the first flight, which was carried out with a DC-6, took place. Exactly 17 years later the last SAS-shares were bought by the Thai government.
The introduction of the Airbus A340-500 coincided with a change in logo, including the font for the title Thai on their airplanes.
Thai Airways Intl. operates one of the longest non-stop flights in the world. The most important routes are between ThaiCountry and Europe. The airline flies with Boeings 737-400, 747-400, 777-200, 777-200ER and 777-300. Airbus is also represented with the A330-300, A340-500 and A340-600. There are orders for both the >Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner as the Airbus A380-800.
